Cocoon - Weiden
Cocoon in Weiden is defined by the preserved architecture of a 14th-century monastery, where the arched ceiling establishes the spatial framework. The design works with this structure rather than against it, using the existing rhythm of the arches to guide proportion, layout, and visual flow.
All walls are original stone, and their texture becomes a central design element. Instead of covering or flattening these surfaces, the concept emphasizes their raw, irregular quality through a restrained material palette and controlled lighting. Warm illumination is integrated along the wall edges and arch lines to reveal depth, shadow, and the natural variation of the rock, turning the envelope itself into a tactile feature.
Contemporary interventions—such as custom lattice panels and sculptural arch extensions—are designed to echo the geometry of the space while remaining clearly distinguishable from the historic fabric. These additions create layers without competing with the existing structure.
Furniture and finishes remain minimal and warm, supporting the architectural presence rather than dominating it. The result is a unified environment where historic stone, vaulted form, and modern detailing are aligned into a coherent spatial experience.
